Cassie’s love of art history didn’t begin in childhood. Growing up in a military household, she had little exposure to museums or the arts. But during her PhD, she became increasingly drawn to how we interpret visual elements in artworks, leading her to a new academic passion.
To deepen her knowledge, Cassie enrolled in the Master’s in History of Art and Visual Culture at University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education (PACE); a course that allowed her to study part-time while continuing her career.
As the first in her family to go to university, education has always mattered deeply to her. “Studying part-time was essential,” she shares. “Alongside my academic role, I’m also a carer for my mother, who has dementia, and I offer respite support to my father on weekends. The structure of this programme makes it possible to pursue my passion without compromising my responsibilities.”
The sense of community has been just as valuable as the curriculum. “From shared gallery visits to friendships formed through collaborative learning, this course has helped me grow, not just as a student, but as a teacher.” Experiencing learning from the student’s side has given her deeper insight into what education at Cambridge can truly feel like.
