The archaeology of Roman Britain

A wide shot of the Great Bath at the Roman Baths , featuring the large, green-tinged water of the main pool surrounded by ancient Roman architecture, including large columns and statues on the upper terrace, under an overcast sky."

Archaeological techniques and modern scientific methods allow us to re-interpret the landscape of Roman Britain, from the impact on the existing Iron Age landscape of Roman invasion, military instillations, the Hadrianic frontier and the Roman army. This introduction to the archaeology of the Romano-British landscape continues with an account of the development of Roman towns, the rural economy, villas and commerce, such as pottery and metalworking. Discussion also covers religion, belief systems, and death and burial, and ends with the decline of Roman Britain. You will have the chance to handle original Roman finds and objects from recent excavations and museum collections.
