The Renaissance reshaped the western world bringing changes in art, literature, architecture and scientific thought. This transformation began as an Italian phenomenon but not a universal one, it manifested in many different ways across Italy. From the Byzantine influences on Venice to the Spanish impact on Neapolitan development, this course examines how the Renaissance developed in 7 Italian cities. Analysing Florence, Mantua, Rome, Urbino, Milan, Venice, and Naples, each city presents a different glimpse of the Renaissance as a whole and highlights key artists and architects in each location.
