Why the British Empire Ended

Exterior view of Buckingham Palace in London showcasing its historic architecture and ornate gate

The British Empire was at its greatest extent in the years after the First World War, but colonies coloured red on a map did not necessarily indicate great power. This course will look at the seeds of the decline of Britain's Empire, from its Victorian heyday through to the Second World War and the long drawn-out postwar conflicts that finally consigned it to the history books.
