Biography

Dr. Akin Falayajo

Akin is a Consultant in Acute Medicine at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, where he is also a Foundation Training Programme and, until recently, Honorary Assistant Professor and Module Lead for Clinical Phase 1 and 3, Medicine (Boston) at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine.

 

He is the Lead Physician for the county-wide Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service. He has been Head of Service for Acute Medicine and Emergency Care at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. In 2021, he was the Emergency and Critical Care Healthcare Professional of the Year for setting up the first ambulatory emergency care service in Lincolnshire and supporting international doctors new to acute medical care in the NHS.

 

Akin has been a tutor on the postgraduate certificate in medical education course since 2022. Since completing the postgraduate certificate, diploma, and master of studies in medical education at Cambridge, he has developed an interest in the professional socialisation of international medical graduates (IMGs), especially how they develop belonging and manage the transition of clinical practice when starting out in the NHS, which was the subject of his MSt dissertation. 

 

As Director of Learning at the Centre for International Medical Graduates, Akin works alongside a team of NHS consultants and professionals to support the transition of clinical practice of international doctors new to the NHS and UK graduates returning to clinical work.

 

Akin is a member of the Society for Acute Medicine and the Association for the Study of Medical Education.
