Dr Alexia Cardona
Course Director for Data Science

Biography

I am the Course Director for Data Science at PACE, which includes the Data Science with Machine Learning & AI Career Accelerator. Developed in partnership with FourthRev, this seven-month programme introduces both core and advanced concepts in data science and AI, with the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects, supported throughout by both our academic team and industry experts.  Throughout my career, I have successfully established and led both award-bearing and non-award-bearing courses.

Within the University, I also serve as Co-Director and Head of Training for Reproducible Research Cambridge. In this role, I work closely with the Open Research team, the Research Data Management Facility, and the Research Culture team at the University, as well as nationally with the UK Reproducible Research Network (UKRN) and ELIXIR-UK. This work focuses on promoting good practices in research data and software and I represent the University on the national UKRN and ELIXIR-UK committees.

Beyond my academic work, I am a strong advocate for increasing the representation of women in leadership and computational fields, where they remain underrepresented. As a mother of two, I understand first-hand the challenges many women face in balancing career progression and family responsibilities. I currently serve as Co-Chair of the University of Cambridge Women’s Staff Network and am a member of both Newnham College and Lucy Cavendish College, which share a commitment to women’s education, inclusion, and diversity.
