Biography
I've been a member of this esteemed institute for a decade, joining the tutor panel in 2015. Having taught certificate and diploma courses on Astronomy, I moved to becoming an online-course tutor since mid-2020 now managing 3 online 7-week Astronomy courses. My life-long passion for the subject began with watching Carl Sagan's series ‘Cosmos’ as a child. Eventually I took it up at University level, which took me to Jodrell Bank, University of Manchester, to become a radio astronomer, with an interest in using Very Long Baseline Interferometry, or VLBI. My experience in VLBI took me to JIVE in the Netherlands as a support astronomer for the European VLBI network. Eventually, I moved to Cambridge, the other great home of radio astronomy in the UK, but moved into IT support at the University, and currently work at the well-known Cavendish Lab, the University's Physics Department.
However, my perpetual fascination with astronomy led me to my current work at PACE. My 3 (very) up-to-date courses covering almost the full range of topics of modern astronomical research - from galactic, to extra-galactic and cosmology - a natural progression to examining the structure of the cosmos over an ever-increasing range of physical scales. This is truly another golden age for our modern multi-messenger astronomy, with fresh-new discoveries on an almost daily basis, so do please join me exploring this amazing and fascinating cosmos.
