Biography

Dr Harry Spillane read for his History BA at Merton College, Oxford, before moving to Cambridge to study at Peterhouse for an MPhil in Early Modern History and PhD in History. Harry's PhD explored the creation, reception and afterlife of the Bishops' Bible and is currently being turned into a monograph. Harry has published widely on the history of the English Bible and the Reformation, and his exploration of early English Bible printing is being released as a book with the Bodleian Library press in January 2026. Harry has been the Munby Fellow in Bibliography at the University Library in Cambridge and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. He currently works as a Bye-Fellow in History at Downing College and Special Supervisor at Newnham College. His current project explores the religious and political consequences of multiple translations of the Bible in English circulating simultaneously in early modern Britain.
