Biography
I am Dr Ian Chambers, please call me Ian!
I have been teaching at PACE for several years. I work on the undergraduate certificate in history, the MSt in history, weekend classes at Madingley Hall, and the International Summer Programme. Although I teach at other institutions, PACE is my favourite place to teach. The diversity of the students and their enthusiasm make it great fun.
Like many of the students who come to PACE, I didn't attend university at 18. I left school at 16 early and returned later in life, and the excitement and pleasure I found made it important for me to pass on that experience.
When I went to university later in life, I was fortunate to gain a BA(Hons.) and MA in History from the University of Warwick before moving to the USA to take my PhD at the University of California.
In the classroom, I use a wide array of media, including audio and visual sources, and like to make the class a combination of providing information and discussing that information; in other words, I prefer being a ""guide from the side"" and not a ""sage on the stage"".
I strongly believe that we never stop learning and that we benefit greatly from pursuing new knowledge and awareness. For that reason, he is committed to teaching people of all ages and skill levels, and I frequently find myself learning a great deal from those in my classes.
