Biography

I am Assistant Professor in Dental Education University of Cambridge, and Course Director on the Masters in Clinical Medicine, with responsibility for the Certificate in Clinical Research, Education and Leadership.

Clinically, I am Senior Dentist with the Special Care Dental Services, working under general anaesthetic and sedation, and an Education Supervisor on the East of England Foundation Dental programme. I am IASCD accredited procedural sedation mentor, and tutor in sedation and pain management for the regional FD programme. I am a past president of the Association of Dental Anaesthetists, and previously Honorary Speciality Lecturer, in Dental Sedation and Pain Management at the Eastman Dental Institute, UCL.

I chaired the Education Section of the National Guidelines on General Anaesthetic in dentistry (2022) and was a Committee Member for the Public Health England National Guidelines for Delivery of Better Oral Healthcare (2019).
I have been a CLAHRC NIHR Fellow, and a Quality Improvement Fellow with HEEoE / The King’s Fund.

Currently I am module lead for Clinical Leadership, Masters in Clinical Medicine, and a postgraduate supervisor, University of Cambridge.

I received the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Dentistry, and national poster prizes for my work in sedation and quality improvement. In 2019 I was honoured with the Ely Heroes Award as Most Amazing Professional, following nomination by patients. 

Research topics

My Master of Studies research dissertation with the University of Cambridge was in establishing a set of entrustable professional activities for dentists working under general anaesthetic. I chaired the Education Section of the National Guidelines on General Anaesthetic in dentistry (2022) and was a Committee Member for the Public Health England National Guidelines for Delivery of Better Oral Healthcare (2019). My work on educational standards in general anaesthetics has been incorporated into the GIRFT national guidelines on hospital dentistry (2025), and the FutureNHS platform.
