Lucy and Peter will be talking about Peter’s new book, En Route: A Journey Round France in the Company of Great Writers in which he sets out to explore France’s sense of its own
people and identity through some of its greatest writers and artists.
Travelling in a loop from Le Havre to Paris, he engages writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Colette and Katherine Mansfield in a rolling conversation about their work and the country that inspired them, ruminating on France, beauty, belonging and nationalism, the perfect omelette, cars and hiking, holy places, wars, pelicans and forest fires.
He traces the threads of history and wonders what’s next for this sublime, mysterious and sometimes fractious country.
