Biography

Lorna is a lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Art. She is a Fellow of Murray Edwards College at the University of Cambridge and PACE. Her specialisms are textile art and Latin American visual culture. Lorna has published two books on the work of Violeta Parra: the edited volume Violeta Parra: Life and Work (Tamesis, 2017) and the monograph Violeta Parra's Visual Art: Painted Songs (Palgrave, 2020). A third co-written book on Parra’s legacy is in press: The Visionary Praxis of Violeta Parra: Music, Poetry, and Art (Bloomsbury). Lorna has also published journal articles on Violeta Parra’s art and on feminist embroidery in Latin America. Two recent articles are Embroidery in Abya Yala and Participatory Needlework and Human Rights Activism.  She is currently writing a book on activist textile art in Latin America, and she is also interested in digital visual culture, Surrealism, AI art and photography.
