Margaret joined the History of Art and Visual Culture programme at Professional and Continuing Education after a career as a finance director. She had always been drawn to art, and after retirement, she decided to study for the love of learning, choosing a part-time course that would allow her to explore a long-standing interest.
She quickly found that the courses changed the way she looked at the world. What had once been a casual appreciation became something far deeper, rooted in context, interpretation, and critical thinking.
“Since doing the courses, I can now look at a work of art or material culture with a completely new eye; understanding how to interpret the object and the relevant context.”
Margaret describes the experience as transformative, not just academically, but personally. She gained confidence in her ability to learn and found new energy through the exchange of ideas with students from different generations.
“I felt truly inspired by the young people I met on my studies; they gave me great hope for the future.”
