Mr Francesco Incelli

Mr Francesco Incelli
Principal Consultant, Researcher - Pell Frischmann – London, IUAV University of Venice

Biography

Francesco is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Lecturer with broad experience in the design and construction industry. He has a wide range of skills encompassing the theory, design, assessment and construction of complex structures, matured in over ten years of involvement in challenging and award-winning projects in the UK, Italy, Southern Africa and Korea. Thanks to his ability to seamlessly combine theoretical knowledge and practical experience, he is also involved in research and teaching collaborations with major UK and Italian universities in the fields of Technology of Architecture, Sustainable Architecture, Circular Economy and Sustainable Design. Francesco is committed to creating strong links between academia and professional practice: he has served as Technical Director for Kovacs&Incelli Ltd (established 2018), Principal Consultant for Pell-Frischmann (London) and has also been appointed Coordinator of Technology Teaching at Kent School of Architecture and Planning until early 2020. His career also includes roles as Technical Lead (UK and Ireland) for Midas IT, the world leader in engineering software, Design Engineer for Ramboll UK and Visiting Professor at IUAV University of Venice.   Francesco's teaching style is based on a hands-on approach that does not compromise theoretical consistency and architectural originality. His method consists in a bottom-up problem solving technique, where practical requirements act as constraints, while theoretical principles are the tools to achieve a correct, compliant and innovative design. In terms of teaching the technology of architecture, Francesco focuses on the interrelationships between the interfaces of the constitutive elements of the building envelope to encourage students to break down complex design tasks into a series of simple ones and to view the building as a collection of different functional elements that are joined together to create an integrated system. He is particularly keen to promote the holistic nature of architecture and structural design, viewing them as a craft rather than disciplines.
