Biography
Shanup Peer is a Data Scientist and Curriculum Architect with nearly 20 years of experience working across industry and academia. He previously served as Subject Lead at FourthRev, where he led the end-to-end design, development, and continuous improvement of the Data Science with Machine Learning & AI Career Accelerator programme delivered in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. His current work focuses on predictive analytics, combining classical statistical methods with modern machine learning approaches, particularly in time-series forecasting, large language models, and agentic AI applications.
Shanup has extensive experience mentoring and teaching adult learners across professional and academic settings. He has previously been recognised as a Top Mentor by deeplearning.ai and holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and an MBA (PGPM) in Operations and Marketing from GLIM, India. He also has a research background, with an emphasis on mathematical modelling, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).
Shanup’s teaching style places strong emphasis on intuition and critical thinking. He encourages learners to question standard explanations and to develop clear mental models of how methods and algorithms behave in practice, rather than accepting results at face value. His approach focuses on reasoning from first principles, examining assumptions, and understanding the implications of modelling choices before moving to implementation. Through structured discussion and guided exploration, he helps learners build confidence in navigating complex ideas, enabling them to move beyond procedural use of tools toward genuine insight and analytical judgement.
