At the University of Cambridge, we’ve always believed in the power of education to shape lives- not just at one stage, but across a lifetime. That’s why, on 1 July 2025, we were proud to begin a new chapter in our story as University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education.
Our name has changed, but our core values, your learning experience, and our status as an institute of the University of Cambridge remain the same.
This isn’t just a new name. It’s a reflection of who we are, what we stand for, and who we serve.
Because life doesn’t stand still- and neither do we.
We know that learning isn’t something confined to classrooms or early years. It’s something that moves with us, through career changes, new passions, life’s pivots and progressions. From aspiring professionals seeking new skills, to curious minds exploring a subject just for the joy of it, our mission remains the same: to open up Cambridge education to anyone, anywhere, at any stage of life.

Why the change?
For over 150 years, we’ve been expanding access to high-quality education. Originally known as the Local Lectures Syndicate, we’ve undergone several evolutions- most recently as the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE). Each chapter has reflected a growing ambition to meet learners where they are, at every stage of life.
Our new name, Professional and Continuing Education, reflects this mission more clearly- as a centre for accessible, world-class learning designed to support both personal and professional growth.
What’s not changing is the quality and range of what we offer.
From weekend courses to part-time Master’s degrees, our courses will continue to span disciplines, formats, and levels. You’ll find us in Cambridge, online, and everywhere in between. And you’ll find a global, inclusive community of learners and tutors who are as passionate about knowledge as you are.
So whether you’re looking to grow professionally, pivot into something new, or simply keep learning for the love of it, our doors are still wide open.
