Open the next chapter: new degree progression for Literature and Creative Writing students

We are excited to announce a collaboration with The Open University in which students of selected Professional and Continuing Education courses can now continue their studies by concluding a full bachelor’s degree with honours at The Open University.

Students would have needed to attain 240 credits in creative writing or English literature subjects at Professional and Continuing Education, including 120 credits from Level 5 undergraduate diplomas in advanced non-fiction, advanced fiction and writing for performance or literature and criticism. These individuals can then go on to apply for a BA (Hons) English literature or English literature and creative writing at The Open University needing only to secure a final 120 credits to achieve their degree.

The final credits can be studied part time over two years or full time in a single year, with both courses at Professional and Continuing Education and Open University taken fully online so that learners can benefit from new flexible pathways.

Those wishing to take advantage of the initiative must apply it via the Open University’s credit transfer process and supply confirmation of their Level 4 and Level 5 awards. All applications should be made in good time particularly for anyone wishing to start of the 2025/26 academic year.
