Professor Edwina Pio

Professor Edwina Pio, New Zealand’s first Professor of Diversity is an internationally recognised researcher, academic, governance leader and speaker. Invested in the King’s New Zealand Honours, with an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM), for service to ethnic communities, she has been awarded the Te Rangi Hiroa Royal Society medal, the Duke of Edinburgh Fellowship and is a Fulbright alumna. She chairs Ethics Committees for the University of Auckland and the Ministry of Health, New Zealand and the Local Advisory Committee (Auckland) for Fire and Emergency New Zealand. She is a Fellow at Oxford University UK.  

Professor Pio was on the Royal Society Rutherford Discovery fellowships panel for the selection of future research leaders to promote multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary links. Widely published, with numerous publications in A-ranked journals and several books, she is a woman of peace and prayer, a scholar of colour, and a passionately engaged educator cum research practitioner in the diversity landscape nationally and internationally. Her current interests coalesce around ageing, migrants, work and faith. She enjoys challenges, has myriad perspectives and a mind-set continually engaged with creativity in its myriad manifestations.
