After nearly 35 years in the civil service, Richard’s career has taken him across administrative roles, overseas postings, and high-level achievements. But his journey wasn’t always straightforward.
“I started out with just two GCSEs, and steadily built my education, eventually earning a bachelor's degree in history.”
“My passion for history first sparked in childhood, overhearing a family conversation about foreign affairs. That moment of curiosity led to a lifetime of exploration, though I wasn’t ready to study history formally at the time.”
Now, after a 12-year break, he’s fully embracing his love for learning by studying for the MSt in History at University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). “I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my academic skills due to the rigour of the programme,” he shares.
Looking ahead, Richard aspires to work at the UN. “The networking opportunities I’ve had through Professional and Continuing Education will be invaluable in that pursuit.”
To anyone considering a return to education, Richard has one message: “It’s a chance of a lifetime- grab it with both hands.”
