For Laura, the MSt in Creative Writing at University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) opened the door to a new creative life. Part of the programme’s first cohort, she credits the course with helping her explore new forms, sharpen her craft, and launch a successful writing career.

“I most enjoyed the modular aspect of the course, which challenged me to discover new types of reading and writing I had never considered before,” she said.

She found the teaching and peer support equally valuable. “The teaching staff, especially Sarah Burton, Jem Poster and Midge Gillies, were excellent, and my fellow students have become good friends,” she said.

After completing the programme, Laura entered the Lucy Cavendish Prize for Fiction on the advice of her college alumni contact and was delighted to be shortlisted. Through the prize, she met her agent, Nelle Andrew. In 2023, she published her debut novel, The Heroines, which became an instant Sunday Times bestseller. Her second novel is due for publication in 2024.

“None of this would have been possible were it not for completing the Master's in Creative Writing all those years ago,” she said. “The course was a life-changing experience for me.”
