For Rebecca, writing has always been more than a craft - it’s a way to support, inspire, and uplift others. As a secondary school teacher and former journalist, she wanted to invest in herself differently, embracing creativity in a way that could make a real impact.
After her son died at 18, Rebecca felt driven to share her expertise in writing to help young people, encouraging their creativity while supporting their mental health.
“I built a freelance career rooted in teaching, working within diverse communities, including Irish Traveller young women, school clubs, and other underprivileged groups.”
Studying at University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) felt like the right moment. “Having been turned down by Cambridge in 1987, I saw this as my chance to finally study here,” she shares.
The experience has been transformative, not just academically but personally. “Studying flexibly while working full-time has been invaluable. And my cohort? They’ve become friends for life, from all around the world.”
