“I work at the East Genomic Laboratory Hub at Addenbrooke’s as a Scientific Support Officer and Healthcare Scientist. Most of my work involves analysing patient data from genomic tests; mainly solid cancer genome sequencing. It’s complex, but incredibly rewarding.”
Kivlyn’s path to Cambridge began in Uganda, where she was born. “I moved to the UK when I was 11. It was a big adjustment; new culture, new school, and some health challenges along the way. But those experiences shaped me.”
In 2019, she came to Cambridge to study Biomedicine at Anglia Ruskin University. “Cambridge gave me a sense of peace and independence. It’s where I’ve built my life.”
When it came to continuing her education, Kivlyn chose to study with University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). “The teaching style really stood out; it’s personal, engaging, and supportive. I’ve grown so much, both professionally and personally.”
One of the highlights of the MSt in Genomic Medicine has been the people. “Each module brings together such a diverse group of learners. You meet people from all walks of life, and that makes the learning experience even richer.”
“It’s about building credibility and deepening my expertise. But more than that, I want to take what I’ve learned and give back. I’d love to return to Uganda one day and help raise awareness of genomics as a future health priority.”
