Lifelong Learning at PACE

This autumn, their achievements span awards, residencies, publications and performances. each one a testament to the vibrant creative community our learners join.
Dr Yvonne Battle-Felton
Dr Yvonne Battle-Felton, Academic Director of Creative Writing and tutor on the new fiction pathway of our MSt in Creative Writing, has been awarded a prestigious Royal Society of Literature Scriptorium Award. As one of ten writers selected, Yvonne will take up a writing residency in a cottage on the Kent coast, gifted by RSL President Bernardine Evaristo. The residency offers exclusive use of the house and a bursary, allowing writers to focus fully on their craft. Yvonne was also a finalist in the Hurston Wright Foundation Zora Award, which celebrates excellence in Black writing. Her novel Curdle Creek was shortlisted in this year’s fiction category.
Dr Midge Gillies
Dr Midge Gillies, who will be teaching on the new creative non-fiction pathway of our MSt in Creative Writing, has just published Atlantic Furies, The Women Who Risked Everything to be the First to Fly. The book tells the gripping true story of six women who raced to cross the Atlantic by plane. Early reviews have praised it as “superb history.” Midge recently discussed the book and the craft of creative non-fiction with Yvonne Battle-Felton in a recorded conversation available to listeners here.
Dr Joe Reed
Dr Joe Reeds third novel Terrestrial History has been longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. Joe is Co-Director of our MSt in Creative Writing. You can listen to him discussing his book here.
Nick Bradley
Nick Bradley, tutor on our MSt in Creative Writing multi-disciplinary and fiction pathway, continues to make waves internationally. His translation of I Am a Cat by Natsume Sōseki (Vintage Classics) has been well received, and he will appear at FILIT 2025, the International Festival of Literature and Translation in Romania. His latest novel Four Seasons in Japan was featured in the 90 Years of Penguin exhibition at Waterstones Piccadilly.
Stav Poleg
Stav Poleg has published her latest poetry collection The Banquet (Carcanet), which explores the delicate tension between language and longing. Her work examines how words shape memory, ethics and action, offering readers a lyrical journey through imagined cities and emotional landscapes.
Ashley Hickson-Lovence
Ashley Hickson-Lovence has won the Best Young Adult category at the Diverse Book Awards 2025 for his verse-novel Wild East (Penguin Random House Children’s). His work continues to resonate with young readers and educators alike.
Lin Coghlan
Lin Coghlan, tutor on our Master’s in Writing for Performance Master’s, will see her adaptation of The Forsyte Saga open at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford on 28 November. Louise Slater
Louise Salter, also teaching on the Master’s in Writing for Performance, will perform Reverie, A Dream of Autoimmunity by Joanna Holland on 2 November at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery. Presented by METAL Peterborough and funded by Arts Council England, the event is part of The Haunted, a year-long exploration of liminal spaces, dreaming and the uncanny. Louise also shares reflections on her creative process via her Substack LivingwithLouise.com, where she recently spoke with Fraser Grace about empathy in writing.
Fraser Grace
Fraser Grace, co-director of our Master’s in Writing for Performance, will be speaking at several events about his creative non-fiction book Firestarter (Galileo Publishing). The book tells the true story of a nineteenth-century arsonist and explores how historical research can fuel compelling storytelling.
