Catherine studied the Undergraduate award: Diploma in Archaeology: Death and the Ancient World, fulfilling a long-held dream of studying with the University of Cambridge. A working professional, she was drawn to the flexibility and intellectual depth of University of Cambridge Professional and Continuing Education courses.
“Very little surprises me at my age, but I am always happily in awe,” she said. “I have found the material and assignments delightfully challenging.”
For Catherine, the course’s structure was a perfect fit for her lifestyle. “I am deeply appreciative that this entire process is truly tailored for working adults,” she explained. “When one is very young and able to be present in classes, the socialising aspects hold a lot of value. For an adult with a full-time job and/or family, the emphasis needs to be more on the material.”
The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) allowed her to stay fully engaged, despite a demanding schedule. “Being able to watch the academics via pre-recorded lectures and recordings of the live lectures was perfect; I never felt I was missing out on anything,” she said. “The VLE allowed opportunities for students to communicate and work together if it was desired, but it was also formatted perfectly for students like me who did not have a schedule that allowed for live discussions.”
Her experience has gone far beyond academic enrichment. “My studies at Professional and Continuing Education have helped me achieve a greater sense of academic belonging (regardless of age) and opened the door to a lifelong dream,” she said.
