As History Subject Lead and Year 5 teacher at a primary school, Jack enrolled in the Undergraduate award: Certificate in Classical Studies to deepen his knowledge of Greco-Roman history and strengthen the new curriculum introduced at his school. His goal is to embed classical civilisation more widely across the school community; from teaching Latin to exploring ancient tragic plays.

“I wanted to up-level my subject knowledge around the Greco-Romans and Classical Civilisations to ensure a substantive knowledge across the curriculum,” he said. “Moreover, I intend to begin introducing the classics more widely into my school.”

Jack was particularly struck by the quality of the teaching and learning experience. “It became clear from the offset, whilst looking through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and after the first lecture, that Daniel was delivering a top-rate student experience,” he said. “His brilliant responsiveness to learners, quality curriculum design and overall focus on high-quality teaching and learning really stood out.”

He credits the programme with helping him enhance his teaching across the wider Academy Trust. “The education is fabulous value for money, and I am exceptionally grateful for the Classics for All Bursary that allowed me to study for this qualification,” he said.

Whether introducing Latin or exploring Greek tragedy, Jack is now equipped with the confidence and subject expertise to champion the classics in a primary education setting.

Enhance your subject knowledge and bring classical learning to new generations.
